Six cautionary letters were sent in respect of other non-genuine samples and
other articles of food complained of by the Public.
WELFARE OF THE AGED
Miss M. Morris, The Organising Secretary of the Southwark Old
People's Welfare Committee, reports a further expansion in every
Branch of the Committee's work during the year.
Nearly 50,000 meals were provided during the year. 19,591 meals
were served in the Gate House Restaurant, and 4,061 in the Nelson
Square Luncheon Club. A new Luncheon Club was opened in the
Church of the Lady Margaret Hall, and served 653 meals. The Old
People's Welfare Committee added a third van to the two already in
service. The three vans supplied 13,298 meals and the two W.V.S.
vans supplied 12,150 meals. The total of 25,448 Meals-on-Wheels
was an increase of over 5,000 on the previous year.
