SMOKE ABATEMENT.
During the year 23 complaints of smoke nuisances were
received, and 32 observations carried out by Sanitary
Inspectors.
In a number of cases the trouble was due to the supply
of unsuitable fuel. Representations were made to the Fuel
Authorities, and more suitable coal was made available,
resulting in an appreciable abatement of smoke emission. Other
difficulties were due to the worn out state of plants, and
untrained firemen.
