Report on the Work of the Health Visitor, Miss Reddoch.
Miss Reddoch reports that she has completed the first year's history
of 2,005 infants born during the year 1913. She has divided them into
three groups, as follows :—
(a) Particulars respecting 1,058 infants alive at the end of one year;
(b) Particulars respecting 720 infants who were removed from
Southwark; and
(c) Particulars respecting 227 infants who died under one year.
It will be seen that a very small percentage of the infants born in
the borough are artificially fed. Of the 2,005 infants under consideration
227 died, showing an infant death-rate of 113 per 1,000 births of those
whose history has been followed. This is a satisfactory infant death-rate
when compared with the infant death-rate of the borough, which is 123
per 1,000.
