The average stay at the Institution was 101 days.
On a perusal of the notes of the cases sent to Benenden it will be
seen that some of the cases returned home, after a three months' residence,
with little improvement. This would appear to reflect somewhat
on those responsible for the selection of the cases for treatment. It is
unfortunate that more of the cases have not received permanent benefit,
the reason is that it has been found very difficult to discover cases in the
very early stage of the disease willing to go to a Sanatorium. Generally
the cases reported to me have been in an advanced stage of Phthisis and
not likely to receive permanent benefit anywhere. It is hoped that
persons thoroughly run down will avail themselves of Sanatorium treatment
before they become affected with definite tuberculosis.
