BIRTHS.
The number of Births registered in the Borough during 1908 was
6,027, of which 3,019 were males, and 3,008 females. This represents a
birth-rate of 28.1 per 1,000 inhabitants.
The number of births belonging to the individual parishes was as
follows :—Newington, 3,644 ; St. George the Martyr, 1,820 ; Christchurch,
256 ; and St. Saviour's, 307.
In addition to the 6,027 births registered in the Borough I learn from
the Registrar General that there were 210 births during the year in
various lying-in institutions outside the Borough belonging to persons
