BOROUGH OF SOUTHWARK.
Public Health Office,
Town Hall, Walworth Road.
Sir and Gentlemen,
I have the honour of submitting for your consideration my
Nineteenth Annual Report on the vital statistics and general sanitary
work of the Borough for the year 1905.
With the exception of Measles and Diphtheria the mortality from
infectious disease has been singularly low.
The death-rate, for so densely populated an area as Southwark, is a
matter for congratulation.
The suckling of babies by the mother is almost universal throughout
the Borough. The only cases in which that is not done is where the
mother is physically incapable of producing the food for the infant.
I am sure good serviceable work has been done by the sanitary staff
during the year, which I am glad to thankfully acknowledge, I beg, also,
to thank the Public Health Committee and the Council for their support
and encouragement in the work.
I have the honour to be,
Your obedient servant,
G. B. MILLSON,
Medical Officer of Health.
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors
of the Borough of Southwark.
