INSPECTION OF FOOD AND PLACES WHERE FOOD
IS STORED.
During the past year the markets and places where food is stored
have been frequently visited by the Ward Inspectors. Particular
attention was given to premises where meat was salted and otherwise
prepared for sale. In almost every instance the premises and utensils
were found to be clean and in a satisfactory state, and the food to be in
sound condition.
The following is a list of the instances where it was necessary for the
Inspectors to take action:—
ST. PAUL'S WARD.
Carpenter's Factory, Sutherland Place.—315 unsound pigs' heads
removed and destroyed by the consent of the owners.
ST. PETER'S WARD.
18, Wooler Street.—48 boxes of tomatoes found to be unsound,
removed to Council's Depot and destroyed.
Stall, Liverpool Street.—A quantity of potatoes ordered by the Ward
Inspector to be sorted and the unsound ones destroyed.
118, Trafalgar Street.—16 calves' tongues found to be unsound,
condemned and destroyed by consent of owner.
ALL SAINTS' WARD.
Rodney Road Police Station.— Two barrels of herrings seized by
Police whilst exposed for sale on a barrow by H. W. Forrest, of 35,
Clandon Street. The herrings were condemned by a magistrate at
Lambeth Police Court and ordered to be destroyed.
ST. MICHAEL'S WARD.
30, Great Suffolk Street.—65, unsound pigs' livers seized by Ward
Inspector and condemned by a magistrate at Southwark Police Court.
The owner was fined £5 and 2s. costs.
188, Borough High Street.—A number of unsound cauliflowers
ordered to be destroyed.
Valentine Place.—A number of unsound rabbits, removed and
destroyed by consent of owner.
