BAKEHOUSES.
The structural alterations carried out during the year in both underground
bakehouses, and in "level" or above ground ones have been so
extensive, that in order to appreciate readily the extent of our work, I
have had tables made showing the present condition of all bakehouses,
together with lists of the works carried out in the year 1903.
It will be seen that all the "level" bakehouses, as well as those
underground, have been much improved and large sums of money have
been spent upon them. Certificates are to be given in respect to all
bakehouses, whether above or underground, when all the requirements
of the Council have been complied with.
Six underground bakehouses in the Borough have been closed as
unfit for use, of which three could not be made fit, and in the remaining
three, the owners were indisposed to incur the expense of the prescribed
alterations.
