The number of cases returned from the hospital as not suffering
from any notifiable infectious disease was 15, or 8.3 per cent. of the cases
removed from home.
I have on many occasions in my annual reports referred to shellfish,
such as mussels, cockles, oysters, and whelks as responsible for a large
amount of Enteric Fever occurring in this Borough.
All the cases of Enteric Fever notified have been visited and careful
inquiries made. In at least 23 cases, the history of each of which is here
given, I believe shellfish to have been the cause.
