Water supply certificates were granted in accordance with Section 95 of
the Public Health (London) Act, 1936, in 529 cases.
There are 11 private wells in the Borough, some of which are used for
industrial purposes. In no case is the water used" for drinking purposes, but
by arrangement with the owners of the wells, the Metropolitan Water Board
takes samples periodically for examination so as to have some record of the
probable suitability of the water for drinking should this become necessary
in the unlikely event of a major breakdown in the normal supply or in case
of war.
See overleaf for analysis of water supplies.
SANITARY INSPECTION OF THE AREA.
The District Public Health Inspectors are responsible for the investigation
of all complaints in connection with premises within their areas
whether these be used as dwellings or for commercial or industrial purposes.
The greater portion of the work concerns dwellings as can be seen from the
summary of work done which follows, on page 15.
