Prophylactic treatment of infants is a developing line, and well
worth the mothers' effort in town conditions. A few mothers have proposed
it themselves and I hope more who can will seek us out.
The remaining group (various disorders) is an important one, a
good response has been obtained in otitis, catarrh, anaemia and various
nervous troubles in elder children. A few have been sent by their own
doctors to our great pleasure.
We are all glad to have a garden at both centres. During really hot
weather, when U.V.R. is undesirable, the gardens have been enjoyed,
with benefit, by toddlers.
Mothers are classified as follows:—
| Ante-Natal | 20 | 57 |
| Post-Natal | 9 | |
| Debility and Anaemia | 13 | |
| Rheumatism | 6 | |
| Various | 9 |
Results:—
| Marked Success. | Success. | Moderate Success. | Failure |
| 33 | 14 | 9 | 1 |
The one failure had severe nervous depression. This increased, and
I sent her for mental treatment. We had a few striking cures among the
"various disorders." Several mothers, also, come regularly every year,
having proved the tonic effect on themselves.
Again, as in previous years, I wish to express my deep appreciation
of the work of the Sister in Charge and of her thoughtful care for mothers
and children; and also to thank Miss Harris for her kindness, patience
and efficiency in assisting.
E. M. LAYMAN.
