Marriages.
During the year the marriages of 2,908 persons were registered,
giving a rate of 21.3 as against 17.8, 17.9, 20.1, 21.2 and 21.4, in the
five years 1932-1936.
Natural Increase.
The natural increase of population represented by excess of births
over deaths was 387.
The principal causes of death are shown in the chart facing page 11.
Heart disease, diseases of the Respiratory System (including Tuberculosis)
account for the majority of the deaths, but in placing Heart disease first
it should be noted that 76 per cent, of the deaths ascribed to this condition
were of persons of 65 years or more.
