Annual Report of the Public Analyst.
During the year 1936, 813 samples were examined under the Food
and Drugs (Adulteration) Act. All samples were submitted by the
Inspectors.
No sample under the Act was submitted by the Public.
169 of the samples were purchased informally.
34 samples were found to be adulterated, 29 formal and 5 informal.
In addition, 36 other samples were of inferior quality or doubtful purity.
The adulteration was at the rate of 4.2 per cent. as compared with
4.1 per cent. for the whole of London, and 5.5 per cent. for the whole of
England and Wales in 1935.
The rate of adulteration in the Borough for the past ten years was as follows:—
