Maternal Deaths.—The Council agreed that the investigation of
maternal deaths should continue to be carried out on the lines suggested
by the Ministry of Health. There were 7 deaths associated with
pregnancy, etc., investigated and the maternal mortality rate was 3.22
per 1,000 total births (live and still.)
(Note.—The Registrar-General's return quoted earlier in this Report
shows only 4 maternal deaths, giving a rate of 1.84 per 1,000 total births.)
