Results of the Survey.
It is understood the London County Council are about to print
and distribute copies of the combined results of the survey in London,
but appended will be found summaries of the more important facts
disclosed by the survey.
I would point out here that the overcrowding figures are calculated
on the standards laid down in the First Schedule to the Housing Act, 1935
(Tables I and II) which include living rooms, but in Poplar it is not the
practice for living rooms to be used generally as bedrooms and in my
opinion this implied practice is not reasonable, especially where the living
room or kitchen is the only living room available.
Appreciation.
Before discussing the facts revealed in Form C, I should like to record
my appreciation of the way in which the staff, both temporary and
permanent, carried out their work-at times under trying circumstancesand
I should also like to express my thanks for the assistance which was
given us in the initial stages by the Town Clerk and the Rating
Department.
I am, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
W. ALLAN YOUNG,
Medical Officer of Health.
Public Health Department,
Harley College, Bow Road, E.3.
