Comments on Table I.
Items A and B.—The new cases and contacts examined during the
year show a decrease as compared with 1934, while the total number of
new cases of non-pulmonary tuberculosis, namely, 25, is the smallest
yet recorded. (26 cases are analysed on Table III, but 1 of these is an
inward transfer and is included in Item 2 on Table 1 instead of Item A.)
Item 7.—The 31 personal consultations include 18 at St. Andrew's
Hospital. The decrease in the number of other consultations is largely
accounted for by the decrease in the number of new cases referred for
examination.
Item 8.—The visits paid by the Tuberculosis Officers show an increase
of 224 over the total for 1934.
Item 9.—In addition to the 6,564 visits paid by the Health Visitors
for dispensary purposes, 253 "non-dispensary" visits were paid under
the Public Health (Tuberculosis) Regulations, 1930.
Item 10.—The number of X-ray examinations at St. Andrew's
Hospital shows a further increase during 1935. In addition to the 1,085
specimens of sputum examined at the Dispensary, 11 specimens of urine
were examined for the presence of tubercle bacilli.
Comments on Tables II and III.
These returns continue to remain optional. During the year 71
patients have been removed from the dispensary register as "recovered"
(there were 64 in 1934), and are analysed in Item C on Table I. These
have been added to those similarly removed in former years in the appropriate
column on Tables II and III. During the year one case of nonpulmonary
tuberculosis developed pulmonary tuberculosis and has been
accordingly transferred from Table III to Table II.
