overcrowded is unknown to the Public Health Department until inspection
is carried out following upon notification of rehousing.
During the year overcrowding was found to have been abated or eased
in 128 such cases—120 through rehousing by the London County Council
and 8 through the action of the Poplar Borough Council.
In all such cases a letter is sent to the person responsible for the
letting of the vacated rooms calling attention to the fact that overcrowding
is a nuisance, and should the premises again become overcrowded the
facts will be reported to the Public Health Committee.
A number of premises where overcrowding had been abated through
the activities of the London County Council and the Poplar Borough
Council were revisited during the year, but in no instance was re-overcrowding
found.

13 certificates were issued to tenants. On applications of owners,
2 certificates that the work had been done were also issued.
