from puny, dyspeptic infants to jolly, smiling babies. The array of cots
outside the Wards when weather permits is an object lesson to the mothers
attending the various clinics at Wellington Road.
Student Health Visitors.—The College of Nursing continued to send
Student Health Visitors and Public Health Workers from overseas for
practical experience in the clinics and on the district. The whole of
the Maternity and Child Welfare Scheme was explained to them from the
Ante-Natal Clinic to the transference of the child's history sheet at
5 years of age to the Education Authority. In addition opportunities of
seeing some of the general work of the Public Health Department were
afforded.
Changes in Staff.—For the first time for several years we have had
changes in the health visiting staff. We were very sorry to part with
Miss Landray, who became lady Sanitary Inspector, and Miss Paice and
Miss Craigie who have taken other appointments.
Post Graduate Refresher Course for Health Visitors, etc.—With the
approval of the Ministry of Health, two of the Health Visitors (Miss
Mallett and Mrs. Haythornthwaite) were granted permission to attend
the "Ninth Winter School for Health Visitors," held in London from
30th December, 1929, to 10th January, 1930.
Day Nursery-There have been no developments regarding the
proposed establishment of a Day Nursery by a Voluntary Association.
THE OBSERVATION WARDS, WELLINGTON ROAD.
Report of Dr. H. St. H. Vertue, Consulting Physician at the
Maternity and Child Welfare Observation Wards.
Both In-Patients and Out-Patients are treated at the Observation
Wards. Clinics are held every Friday, and the children in the Wards
are kept under close observation by numerous visits.
In-Patients.—The number of cases admitted this year is greater
than was the case last year, and the results have been equally satisfactory.-
