Conferences.—Delegates were sent to the following Conferences during
the year:—
(a) Royal Sanitary Institute Conference (Margate). Chairman
of the Public Health Committee (Councillor Mr. G. Anderson)
and the Medical Officer of Health.
(b) Provincial Meeting of the Tuberculosis Association (Oxford).
Dr. C. K. Cullen.

(London). Miss L. Nugent.
(d) Sanitary Inspectors' Association (Ilfracombe). Mr. S. Kelly.
(e) Maternity and Child Welfare (London). Miss J. M. Cardozo.
During the latter part of the year, and in the early months of 1931, a
Medical Officer of the Ministry of Health visited the Borough with a view
to carrying out a survey of the Council's Public Health Seivices.
I must acknowledge my indebtedness to members of the Council
for their support, and to officers of the Council and others who have
contributed to various sections of the Report.
Again I wish to record my appreciation of the way in which the
members of the staff of the Public Health Department have carried out
their work during the year.
It is with regret I have to record the deaths early in 1931 of three
members of the staff, including Dr. W. C. P. Smith, the Tuberculosis
Officer.
I am, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
W. ALLAN YOUNG,
Medical Officer of Health.
