Milk and Dairies (Consolidation) Act, 1915.
This act came into force on September 1st, 1925.
The provisions contained therein prohibit the sale of milk to which
colouring matter, condensed milk, or dried milk has been added.
They also give the vendor the privilege of demanding a sample to
be taken in the course of delivery, if he wishes to rely upon the
"warranty" defence.
The owner of the cows can also demand a sample of the milk to be
taken at the dairy where the cows are kept.
Glass in Food.
Twelve samples of food in glass containers were examined for the
presence of particles of glass, at the request of the Ministry of Health.
These consisted of:—4 beverages, 4 jams, 2 meat pastes and 2 fish
pastes.
The beverages were found to contain microscopical particles similar
to ground glass but in amounts too small to estimate.
