or he must be furnished by the applicant with a declaration signed by a
qualified veterinary surgeon, appointed by the firm with the approval of
the Certifying Officer, to the effect that an ante-mortem and post-mortem
examination was made by him, and that the animals so examined were
found free from disease.
Where the products are prepared from material imported into the United
Kingdom from overseas, the Certifying Officer must satisfy himself that the
material was accompanied by a certificate as to ante-mortem and post-mortem
veterinary inspection signed by an Official of the National Government of the
country of origin, being a country whose certificates the Authorities are
prepared to accept.
If the information obtained by the Certifying Officer is not, in his view,
satisfactory, certification is to be withheld and the Certifying Officer must
inform the Ministry forthwith.
The Certifying Officer will supply the Ministry of Health with such
information as may be required in regard to the methods of inquiry, inspection
and certification which have been adopted.
During the year, special arrangements were made with the Officers of
the Corporation of London regarding the certification for export of
sausages which had been prepared under the supervision of officers of that
authority.
167 certificates were issued in connection with 129 consignments of
foodstuffs: Canada: (54 certificates), Australia (67), Philippine Islands
(13), Venezuela (25), others (8).
102 visits were paid to factories in connection with the above.
PUBLIC ANALYST'S ANNUAL REPORT.
During the year 1925, 811 samples were examined under the Sale
of Food and Drugs Acts, of which 65 or 8.0 per cent. were found to
be adulterated. In addition, 104 samples or 12.8 per cent, were found
to be of inferior quality.
