AREA AND POPULATION.
The area of the Borough is 2,136 acres, and the population, estimated
to the middle of the year by the Registrar-General, is 168,500,
giving a density of 79 persons per acre. The estimated population
given above has been used for calculating the various rates in the present
report. The population of London is estimated at 4,602,000.

The birth-rate per 1,000 population was 22.7 as against 34.1, 27.2,
26.6, 25.6 and 22.9 for the years 1920-1924. During the year 3,505
notifications were received under the Notification of Births Act, 1907.
MARRIAGES.
During the year the marriages of 2,724 persons were registered,
giving a rate of 16.2, as against 18.7, 16.2, 15.0, 16.1 and 15.3 in the
five years 1920-1924.
DEATHS.
1,973 deaths were registered as having occurred in the Borough.
311 deaths of non-residents must be deducted and 308 deaths of Poplar
residents which occurred outside the Borough must be added, giving a
nett total of 1,970 and a rate of 11.7 per 1,000 of the estimated population.
