Training of Health Visitors.—Under Circular 557 and with the
approval of the Ministry of Health, a course of 6 lectures was arranged
during October and November at the Royar College of St. Katharine.
Three lectures were given by Dr. H. K. Waller and three by Dr. A.
E. Hamilton. In addition to the Health Visitors, invitations were sent
to all the midwives in the Borough, District Nurses and to the various
Institutions. The lectures had an average attendance of 33, and were
much appreciated.
INFANT MORTALITY.
There were 288 deaths of children under one year of age, the death-rate per 1,000 births for the past 18 years being:—

Note.—The figures in brackets are the mortality rates amongst infants
visited by the Health Visitors. The infants visited are, for
the most part, resident in the poorest portions of the
Borough. These rates are calculated upon births occurring
in any particular year, and deaths in that and the following
year.
