A monthly Ante-Natal Clinic was started at Poplar last Octobei. 1
hope this will be successful.
Dental Clinic.—The attendances have been excellent. The mothers
are most appreciative of the treatment and advice which they obtain.
Sewing Class.—A fortnightly Sewing Class has been started at Millwall,
and we have held small Jumble Sales both here and at Poplar.
Infantile Mortality.—The rate for the Borough, 72 per 1,000 births,
is higher than last year, due chiefly to the prevalence of respiratory
diseases. There has been a large number of Whooping Cough cases. In
the overcrowded homes it is impossible for a mother to isolate an infectious
child, babies of 3 weeks dying from the result of Whooping Cough.
Toddlers.—We have endeavoured to keep the toddlers under closer
supervision and have impressed upon the Mothers the importance of
bringing them to the Clinic when possible.
Artificial Sunlight.—In allowing the use of your office, a number of
children have received Artificial Sunlight treatment, with the most beneficial
results. We have a long waiting list and hope soon to have all-day
sessions in our new quarters.
Educational Health Films.—Tickets were distributed at the Clinics
for the Health Films which were shown at Poplar and Bow. They were
in great demand, the mothers and fathers attending well.
The Mothers' and Babies' Christmas Party, given by the Clinic Staff
and their friends, took place on January 5th and 6th, 1925. We had the
pleasure of entertaining 1,200 guests.
I am sorry that Mrs. March has found it necessary to discontinue
her visits to the Clinics and wish to offer her our sincere thanks for the
valuable help she has given during the last 17 years.
Our thanks are also due to the following Voluntary Workers :—Mrs.
Waters, Mrs. Radcliffe, Miss Edwards, Miss Kean.
