Council that letters to this effect be addressed to the Chapter of S.

Nursing Associations—Nursing Cases of Measles and Ophthalmia
Neonatorum.
The following letter was submitted to the Public Health and Housing
Committee:—
" Local Government Board,
Whitehall, S.W. 1.
April 5th, 1917.
Sir,
I am directed by the President of the Local Government Board
to state that he has had before him a proposal from the Central Council
for District Nursing in London that they should undertake the work of
co-ordinating the arrangements made for the nursing of cases of measles
and ophthalmia neonatorum by District Nursing Associations throughout
London.
The Board understand that the Central Council are prepared to
arrange for competent nurses to be available throughout London for the
nursing of these cases if the Metropolitan Borough Councils will undertake
to utilise the Nurses for the nursing of such cases as need this
assistance. As the Board have stated in their previous letters and
circulars, they regard it as very important that provision should be made
for the nursing of cases of measles and ophthalmia neonatorum selected
by the Medical Officer of Health, and the Board would remind the Council
that their grant is available in respect of expenditure on this subject.
The Board suggest that the Borough Council, if it has not already done
so, should make arrangements with District Nursing Associations in
or near its District, which should preferably be affiliated to the Central
Council, for the nursing of such cases cf measles and ophthalmia neonatorum.
The Board would be glad to be informed of the decision of
the Borough Council in this matter, and to receive particulars of any
arrangements made with District Nursing Associations, including the
names of the Associations, and the terms on which the Council have
agreed with them to provide Nurses.
I am,
Your obedient Servant,
H. O. STUTCHBURY,
for Assistant Secretary."
