The following letter was submitted to the Works Committee
London County Council,
County Hall, Spring Gardens, S.W.
12th December, 1913.
Sir,
Motor Car Acts, 1896 and 1903.
With reference to your letter, dated 17th October, 1913,1 am
directed to state that, after full consideration, the Council does not
see its way to apply to the Local Government Board for the issue
of regulations prescribing a reduced speed limit for motor vehicles
in East India Dock Road between St. Leonard's Road and
Aberfeldy Street.
So far as the speed of tramcars is concerned, I am to point
out that special instructions have been given to motormen to
exercise caution in this part of East India Dock Road and that
the Council is satisfied that the cars are not run at an excessive
speed. As the Poplar Metropolitan Borough Council is aware,
temporary street refuges have been recently fixed in this road, with
a view to the better regulation of the traffic, etc.
In these circumstances there does not appear to the Council
to be any justification for a reduced speed limit.
