BAKEHOUSES.
Inspections. Hours of Labour (Bakehouses) Bill.
Inspections.
The Bakehouses throughout the Borough were inspected at least
twice during the year.
There are 111 bakehouses in the Borough of Poplar, 36 Poplar
(including 1 factory bakehouse), 48 Bromley (including 2 factory
bakehouses), 27 Bow, but at the date of the last inspection 7 were
disused in Poplar, 13 in Bromley and 5 in Bow, so that there were in
use 86 bakehouses, 29 Poplar, 35 Bromley and 22 Bow. See Table A,
page 144, number made up to end of year.
There are 35 underground bakehouses in the Borough, 8 Poplar, 15,
Bromley and 12 Bow. At the Autumnal half-yearly inspection 10 were
not in use—2 Poplar, 5 Bromley and 3 Bow.
Cleansing was necessary in the various bakehouses on 160 occasions.
No other nuisances were found.
