ACUTE POLIO-MYELITIS, OR ACUTE POLIOENCEPHALITIS.
The Local Government Board approved an Order of the London
County Council made on 27th February, 1912, requiring the notification
of acute polio-myelitis or acute polio-encephalitis, from and including
13th March, 1912.
Five cases were notified—three Bromley and two Bow.
(1.) A case of polio-myelitis occurred in a male, aged three years,
of Norman Road, Bow, the illness commencing on 5th September, 1911.
The patient attended St. Bartholomew's Hospital as an out-patient.
(2.) A case of polio-myelitis was notified on 17th June in a male
aged 2½ years, of Ettrick Street, Bromley. The patient was removed
to Poplar Hospital on 13th June.
(3.) A case of epidemic polio-myelitis was notified on 10th August
as occurring in a male, aged nine months, of Oban Street. The
patient was admitted to the London Hospital on 8th August, and was
discharged to the out-patients' department for massage on the 13th.
(4.) A case of acute anterior polio-myelitis was notified on 26th
September as occurring in a female, aged four years, of Imperial Street.
The patient had been treated at home and died on the 26th September.
(5.) A case of polio-myelitis was notified on 12th October as occurring
in a male, aged three years, of Lefevre Road, Bow. The patient was
treated at the London Hospital as an out-patient.
DIARRHŒA AND ENTERITIS.
Diarrhœa and Enteritis.
Under this heading are included deaths registered as due to epidemic
diarrhoea, epidemic enteritis, infective enteritis, zymotic enteritis, summer
diarrhoea, choleraic diarrhoea, cholera (other than Asiatic), gastroenteritis,
gastro-intestinal catarrh, muco-enteritis, colitis, etc.
Deaths from dysentery are not included, but tabulated separately,
and one fatal case from this disease occurred in the sub-district of Poplar
(see Table XI.).
