Legal Proceedings under the Public Health (London) Act 1891 and
Bye-laws.
In pursuance of the different orders of authorisation granted by
the Public Health and Housing Committee, it was found necessary in
only one case to institute legal proceedings (against the owner of
" Hawthorn's Wharf," Cold Harbour, for disobeying the order of the
Council, viz., to provide a suitable and proper water supply for the use of
the workmen). Defendant was fined 40s. and 23s. costs.
Smoke Nuisances.
During the year the shafts throughout the district have been
under careful observation, and in five instances nuisances were detected.
In these cases intimations and statutory notices were served, which have
had the desired effect of abating the nuisances. No recurrence of the
nuisances took place, therefore there was no necessity to institute legal
proceedings.
