it was desirable the road should be repaired, but that no liability for future
maintenance should be undertaken by the Council, and recommended:—
"That the necessary repairs to the cul de sac between 67 and
69, Mellish Street be carried out by the Borough Surveyor, and
the cost apportioned upon, and recovered from, the owners, in
accordance with the powers of the Council under Section 3 of the
Metropolis Management Amendment Act, 1890."
Closure of Duff's Fields.
The Works Committee reported to the Council that they had been
waited upon by a deputation, who pointed out to them certain improper
uses to which a passageway known as Duff's Fields was put. The
Works Committee were assured the owners would do all that is necessary
for the convenience of the tenants, who would remain in occupation, by
putting up a gate and providing them with keys, so that they would be
able to use the back portions of the premises Nos. 25 and 27, St.
Leonards Road, as previously.
The Works Committee were of opinion the thoroughfare in question
might well be closed without any injury or inconvenience to the general
public, and the Council agreed to the proposal that the passageway known
as Duffs Fields, situate between St. Leonards Road and Lodore Street,
should be closed as desired by the owners.
After the usual formalities Duff's Fields was closed in the manner
suggested above.
