In the course of the year 1908 it will be seen no fewer than 89
patients or a percentage on the total admissions of 6.28 were, after
admission at the fever hospitals, found not to be suffering from the
diseases mentioned in the medical certificates upon which they were
removed to hospital. The percentage on the total (admission) scarlet
fever cases was 4.58, diphtheria cases 11.55, and enteric fever cases 26.66.
Amongst the 52 cases wrongly certified as scarlet fever there were
2 pharyngitis, 1 erythema, 21 tonsillitis, 1 measles, 1 gastro-enteritis, and
4 cases were diphtheria and not scarlet fever. Amongst the 29 cases
wrongly certified as diphtheria were 2 of tonsillitis. 10 cases were scarlet
fever and not diphtheria and 1 case was enteric fever and not diphtheria.
Amongst the 8 cases of typhoid fever wrongly certified were 1 enteritis,
1 retro peritoneal abscess, enteritis and broncho-pneumonia, and 1 pericarditis,
one case was scarlet fever and not typhoid fever.
In the course of the year 1908 no fewer than 2,594 patients against
3,109 in 1907, 2151 in 1906, 2,157 in 1905, 1,993 in 1904, 1,913 in
1903, and 2,108 in 1902, or a percentage on the total admissions of 9.7
in 1907, 8.3 in 1906, 9.04 in 1905, 10.7 in 1904, 10 4 in 1903, and 8.6
in 1902 were, after admission (to the fever hospitals, found not to be
suffering from the diseases mentioned in the medical certificates upon
which they were removed to hospital.
