The condition in some cases necessitated service of intimation with
respect to the removal of sweepings from under the troughs, and cleansing
of utensils, etc.
Cowsheds and Slaughterhouses.
Five notices were received for the renewal of licences. The premises
were duly inspected, and where any infringement of the regulations was
found intimations were served and the defects remedied before the
licences were granted.
The slaughterhouses have been frequently visited when killing was in
progress, and everything found satisfactory.
The number of these premises now on the register is—cowsheds, 2;
slaughterhouses, 3.
Overcrowding.
During the year complaints of ten cases of overcrowding were
received; in each case the nuisance was abated after the service of
intimation and statutory notice without recourse to legal proceedings.
Smoke Nuisances.
During the past year the shafts throughout the district have had
special observation, and in only three instances were nuisances detected,
which is a diminution from the preceding year when the number was 7.
In each of the above cases intimation and statutory notice were served,
and the nuisances satisfactorily abated. There has been no recurrence of
the nuisances, therefore no necessity to take legal proceedings.
Coffee Houses, Restaurants, Private Hotels, Sausage Makers, Fried
Fish Shops, Etc.
Special attention has been given to these premises, all of which have
been inspected periodically during the past year; change of proprietorship,
new premises opened and those closed have been duly reported and noted
in the register kept for that purpose. At the time of inspecting these
premises in every case the food has been found satisfactory; in several
instances it has been necessary to serve intimations for cleansing to
be done.
Ice Cream Manufacturers and Itinerant Vendors.
All the premises where ice cream is made have been inspected with
the view of detecting nuisances, also any infringements of the London
County Council's (General Powers) Act, 1902, Part viii Each itinerant
