Report of the Inspector West Combined Division.
Public Health Department.
31st December, 1907.
To the Medical Officer of Health.
Sir,—
I beg to lay before you my seventh Annual Report of the Sanitary
work and other duties carried out under the different Acts in connection
therewith in the West Combined District during the past year, rendering
as far as possible a detailed account of nuisances abated, inspections made,
summonses applied for, etc.
Inspection of Division.
In investigating complaints and making inspections of all kinds 1345
houses or other premises have been visited, 392 of these visits being on
account of notifications of infectious diseases.
This number shows an increase of 193 or nearly double the number
of cases notified the previous year. This is practically accounted for
by the abnormal amount of scarlet fever cases while the epidemic was at
its height.
During the time, 6th July to 12th September, 115 cases were notified
in my district alone. Of the 392 cases, 3 occurred at the Poplar Union, 4
at Langley House Receiving Home and 2 at the Poplar and Stepney Sick
Asylum.
House to House Inspections.
These visits to the number of 89 were carried out in the undermentioned
places, a large number of the drains proving unsound (some
exceedingly defective) on being tested :—
