No charge is made for the fluid supplied
to the Poplar Guardians, and to the
Managers of the Sick Asylums, 568
gallons (period of four months).*
In comparing the expenditure of the year 1906 with that of 1905 it
will be seen there has been a saving of £265, and if the sum of £30 paid
to the Electricity Department as rent and supervision be not taken into
account, there has been brought about a saving of nearly £300, and this
will be supplied once a week instead of three times, the fluid now being made to keep
stable indefinitely.
Experiments carried out have shown that samples of fluid prepared a year ago
showed a fall of chlorine not exceeding 0.5 grammes per litre (about 10 per cent.) in the
first few months, since which time the chlorine has remained quite constant. Fluids
prepared in October, 1906, by the improved method have remained absolutely constant
up to March, 1907.
