In the course of the year 1904 it will be seen no fewer than 54
patients or a percentage on the total admissions of 5.5 were, after
admission at the fever hospitals, found not to be suffering from the
diseases mentioned in the medical certificates upon which they
were removed to hospital. The percentage on the total scarlet
fever cases was 5.0, diphtheria cases 4.9, and enteric fever cases 17.6.
Amongst the 20 cases wrongly certified as scarlet fever there were
9 of measles, 1 of rotheln, and 1 of tubercular meningitis. Amongst
the 24 cases wrongly certified as diphtheria were one of measles,
2 of stomatitis, and 2 of retro-pharyngeal abscess. Amongst the
9 cases wrongly certified as enteric fever were 1 of measles, 2 of
pneumonia, 1 of lumbago, 1 of malignant-endocarditis, 1 of tuberculosis
of lungs, 1 of infantile diarrhoea, and 1 of tonsillitis.
In the course of the year 1903 no fewer than 1,913 patients
against 2,108 in 1902 or a percentage on the total admissions of
