Improper Drain Repair.
On the 17th November last the owner of 30, Marshfield Street,
Cubitt Town, was fined £2 and £1 3s. costs for causing the drain
at the said premises to be so repaired as to be a nuisance and injurious
to health. While inspecting work at the adjoining premises
No. 29, Marshfield Street, I noticed the ground appeared to have
been recently disturbed above the course of the drain—which was
then obstructed. This led to further enquiries being made, when
it was ascertained that certain drain repairs had been executed and
covered in.
With the Public Health Committee's authorisation the drain was
re-exposed for your examination, when defective work was revealed.
At the Police Court it was proved that the work had been done by
an unskilled labourer with the knowledge and by the direction of
the owner.
Periodical inspections were made of the following premises, and Notices served as under:—
