The Committee was advised there was no reason why applications
for certificates should not be considered prior to January 1st, 1904,
and that every case should be dealt with on its own merits respecting
the requirements which will make an underground bakehouse
"suitable " before being certified by the Borough Council.
There are 117 bakehouses in the Borough: 38 Poplar, 48 Bromley
and 31 Bow. Of the 117 bakehouses 40 are "underground," 10
Poplar, 18 Bromley, and 12 Bow.
The Committee directed that Bakers be informed that applications
for certificates may be considered before January 1st, 1904. The
sections relating to bakehouses of the Factory and Workshop Act,
1901, were printed and served upon the occupier of every underground
bakehouse.
At the time of writing this report the Sanitary Inspectors are
measuring up the underground bakehouses, as to cubic space, light,
ventilation, etc.
Full details respecting the condition of the underground bakehouses
will be presented to the Public Health Committee in due
course.
The particulars in regard to underground bakehouses, which will
