In the 53 weeks 3393 deaths were registered in the Borough of
Poplar, 950 deaths having occurred in the parish of Poplar, 1901
in Bromley, and 542 in Bow; from the 950 deaths which took
place in Poplar there must be deducted 81 deaths of non-residents,
and to the remainder must be added 379 deaths which occurred in
outlying institutions, making a total of 1248 deaths of Poplar
parishioners. Treating the 1901 registered deaths in Bromley in
the same manner, viz., deducting 821 deaths of non-parishioners and
adding 212 deaths in outlying institutions, the deaths to be assigned
to this parish will be found to be 1292. From the 542 Bow deaths,
there must be deducted 33 non-residents and added 275 deaths in
outlying institutions, making a total of 784 deaths.
In dealing separately with the parishes as above, it will be seen
by referring to Tables I., II. and III. that in considering the deaths
of non-residents and those from outlying institutions, that certain
additions and deductions from the parishes have to be made in
respect of themselves, but when considering the Borough as a whole,
then from the 3393 deaths which were registered there must be
deducted 564 deaths of actual non-residents and 495 deaths in
institutions entirely outlying must be added, making a total for the
Borough of 3324, upon which the death rate is calculated.
The 1248 deaths in Poplar included 4 illegitimate children, 2
male and 2 female; the 1292 deaths in Bromley included 8
illegitimate children, 5 male and 3 female; the 784 Bow deaths
included 8 illegitimate children, 0 male and 8 female, making a total
for the Borough of 20 deaths of illegitimate children.
