To the Medical Officer of Health,
Poplar and Bromley.
Sir,
I beg to submit to you my fifth Annual Report of the
sanitary work carried out in my district (Poplar North Division)
during the year ended 31st December, 1900.
1811 premises have been inspected, 1239 in answer to complaints
of nuisances, 379 on account of notifications of infectious diseases,
the remaining 193 being house to house Inspections.
Out of the above total number of Inspections, the drains of 635
premises have been tested with either smoke or chemical drain
testers and 487 were found to be defective (not gastight)and in 148
instances the tests revealed no defects, 587 premises were found to
be in fair condition.
House to house Inspections have been carried out in the whole of
the following streets, viz.:—
Alton Street, Poplar North Prospect Place, Grundy
Portion, Street,
Bedford Street, Providence Place,
Carter's Terrace, Prestons Road,
Crawford's Yard, Pigott Street, Poplar North
Dickerson's Place, Portion,
Emmett Place, Bridge Road, Surrey Place, Bow Lane,
Flint Street, Poplar North Sydney Street,
Portion,
and sections of the following streets, viz. :—
