CANAL BOATS AND OTHER VESSELS.

The reports of the late Mr. Raymond show that during the year 1900 he had inspected the undermentioned Canal Boat- in the Parishes of Poplar and Bromley :—

When the Committee were considering how the duties carried out
by the late Mr. Raymond could be best executed, upon the question
of the inspection of canal boats, I presented the following reports:—
" Canal boats run through three out of the five divisions into
which it is proposed to divide the parishes of Poplar and Bromley ;
the water-courses take a round-about route, and in order to reach
such ' boats ' upon the different banks of the water-courses, long
circuitous journeys have to be made. The Medical Officer suggested
that the inspection of these ' boats ' be carried out in the same way
as the abatement of smoke nuisances, viz.: by the Inspectors on the
' spots, ' and that for these reasons the Inspectors of ' North Bromley,'
'Central Bromley,' and 'West Combined' divisions be Inspectors
of ' canal boats,' and the Inspectors of the ' East Combined ' and
