poplar south division.
To comprise that portion of the Poplar Parish, south of the
boundary of the South West India Dock.
Whilst this Report is being written the Local Government Board
have agreed to the above resolution and the Inspectors are to be as
follow :—
Bromley North Mr. F. J. Anthony.
Bromley Central Mr. R. E. Miners.
East Combined Mr. J. Bullock.
Isle of Dogs, South Poplar Mr. C. Foad.
Leaving the West Combined Division to the proposed additional
Sanitary Inspector.
Before sanctioning the above arrangement, the Local Government
Board pointed out that a comparison of the staff of Sanitary
Inspectors employed by the late Board of Works, with those in the
service of other authorities in the Metropolis showed the average
population was upwards of 21,000 in Poplar, whilst the Metropolitan
average was about 17,300. Calculated on the Metropolitan average
the number of Sanitary Inspectors in the Borough should be 10. The
Local Government Board thought it desirable the staff should be
increased, but agreed to the proposed arrangement upon the Council
promising to consider the proposal to increase the staff in six months
time.
