Messrs. Main and Gordon acting upon my advice gave “notice”
to the Managers to close the whole School.
The late Medical Officer to the Local Government Board, in a
memorandum upon the subject of closing public elementary schools,
stated : " It is less likely to be useful in a town or compact village
(particularly where houses are sublet and yards are in common) where
the children of different households, when not at school, spend their
time in playing together, and often run in and out of each other's
houses. But it must be remembered that children when at play out
of doors are brought into much less close association with each other
than when at school."

During the months of March and April a number of cases of
measles happened among the scholars in the infants' departmen at
the St. Luke's Schools, Millwall. The Head Master was advised to
exclude all children who attended from infected houses.
