Compulsory Repairs.
One notice (15) was served and complied with during the year
under Section 9 of the Housing Act, 1936. Of the thirteen (14)
notices served prior to 1956 which remained outstanding, the
owners complied with three (8) and in seven (4) other cases the

compliance with three other notices was assumed by the London
County Council.
Slum Clearance Programme.
On the 21st April, 1956, the Minister of Housing and Local
Government approved the joint proposals made by the Borough
Council and the London County Council under Section I of the
Housing Repairs and Rents Act, 1954. An approved copy of the
proposals was duly placed on deposit at the Town Hall for
inspection. These proposals provide for 279 unfit houses to be
dealt with by the London County Council and for the Borough
Council to deal with 54 unfit houses during the period 1956-1960.
In addition, the Borough Council will give consideration to dealing

Part III of the Housing Act, 1936, as amended, together with
additional lands which in the opinion of the County Council are
reasonably necessary for the satisfactory development or user of
the areas. The Compulsory Purchase Order has been submitted
to the Minister of Housing and Local Government for confirmation.
Public Local Enquiries into the London County Council's Edensor
Gardens and North Wharf Road Clearance Areas are to be held
at the Town Hall early in the New Year.
On the 18th April, 1956, the London County Council made a
compulsory purchase order entitled The County of London
