SHOPS ACTS.—The Shops Acts Inspectors made 1,856 (1,500)
inspections during the year. No statutory action was necessary,
any contraventions found being dealt with informally.
PET ANIMALS ACT.—Six (6) licences were applied for and
granted during the year. Routine inspections are made to ensure
that the conditions attaching to the licences are being maintained.
BURIALS.—During the year 44 (45) burials and 2(—) cremations
were arranged under the National Assistance Act, 1948.
MORTUARY.—The number of bodies received at the mortuary
was 258(379) and 237(319) post mortem examinations were made
there. The decrease is due to the practice, since April, of holding
post mortem examinations at hospitals in cases where patients have
died in hospital.
