In addition to the above, 17(17) summonses were withdrawn on
payment of 15(17) guineas costs in cases where summonses were
withdrawn and settlement reached out of court.
SHOPS ACTS.—The Shops Acts Inspectors made 1,590(1,686)
inspections during the year. No statutory action was necessary, any
contraventions found being dealt with informally.
PET ANIMALS ACT.—Six (7) licences were applied for and granted
during the year. Routine inspections are made to ensure that the
conditions attaching to the licences are being maintained.
BURIALS.—During the year 45(26) burials and —(6) cremations
were arranged under the National Assistance Act, 1948.
MORTUARY.—The number of bodies received at the mortuary was
379 (392) and 319 (343) post mortem examinations were made there.
CANAL BOATS.—During the year the Paddington Basin and its
vicinity was visited on 20(40) occasions and 7(36) boats were
inspected. It was not found necessary to serve any formal notices.
No (one) child of school age was found to be living on the boats
inspected.
RODENT CONTROL.—The following table gives details of the work
carried out under the Prevention of Damage by Pests Act, 1949.
It relates to the year ended 31st March, 1956, at the request of the
Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
