districts than in others. However, recent alterations in procedure tend to make the number of cases
on the tuberculosis register serve as a guide to the real prevalence of the disease. One can also take
the annual number of deaths as being a measure of prevalence. This is probably the most exact method
which can be used at the present time.
From pulmonary tuberculosis there were 85 deaths in 1934, and from other tuberculous diseases
there were 12 deaths.

The number of deaths from tuberculosis of all kinds was 122 in 1932, 104 in 1933 and 97 in 1934, the latter figure creating a new low record. In recent years the numbers of deaths were as follows:—

Of the patients who removed from the Borough during 1934, the new addresses were obtainable
in 115 instances, and particulars of the cases were transmitted to the medical officers of health of the
respective districts.
In 1934, 9 cases of patients who had removed into the Borough from other districts were added
to the register.
The number of cases remaining on the Tuberculosis Register at the close of 1934 was 1,200 as
compared with 1,351 at the close of the year 1933.
