Illegitimate Births.—These were 263 in number, or 13.77 per cent. of the total number of
births. The proportion of illegitimate births varies remarkably in the different wards as is shown
in the table below:—

Stillbirths.—During 1934, 72 stillbirths were registered in the Borough in accordance with
the provisions of the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1926. Of these, 30 occurred to residents
of other localities; on the other hand 15 stillbirths occurred outside the Borough to Paddington
residents. The nett number for the Borough was therefore 57, a figure equivalent to 2.9 per cent.
of the total births recorded. Of the 57 stillbirths, males numbered 36 and females 21, 5 of the males
and 8 of the females being illegitimate.
