VITAL STATISTICS.
The Metropolitan Borough of Paddington as constituted under the London Government Act,
1899, covers an area of 1,356.1 acres, including 20.0 acres of waterway. It is co-extensive with the
Civil Parish and Registration District of the same name. The Borough is divided into nine wards.

MARRIAGES.
During 1926, 1,591 marriages were solemnized in the Borough, being a rate of 21.6 persons per
1,000 of the population.
BIRTHS.
The number of births registered in the Borough during 1926 was 2,131, and, in addition, 117
occurred outside the Borough to Paddington residents in excess of those occurring in Paddington
to residents of other localities, making a total of 2,248 births. The birth-rate for 1926 was therefore
15.32 per 1,000 of the population.
Of the 2,248 births, 1,181 were those of males and 1,067 those of females, and of these 102 males
and 95 females were illegitimate.
The Registrar-General's final figure for the nett number of births is given as 2,258, but this does
not substantially affect the figure for the birth-rate given above.
