OTHER DISEASES.
A distribution of the last year's deaths, distinguishing the variety of new growth, the parts
affected, and the ages of the deceased, is given in Table 27.
Institutional Treatment.—Of the 211 deaths recorded last year 88 occurred in institutions
of various descriptions, equal to 41.7 per cent, of the total. The deaths in Poor Law institutions
numbered 43, in hospitals 31 (including 11 in Middlesex Hospital), the remainder in lunatic
asylums, nursing homes, &c.

OTHER DISEASES.
Epidemic Influenza.—Twenty-nine deaths were attributed to this cause during the past
year, as compared with 33 in 1913 and 23 in 1912. The mortality rate last year was 0.20 per
1,000 (Table 28), or 0'06 below the average for the five years 1909-13. There were no deaths in
Hyde Park Ward.

Respiratory Diseases.—The deaths from bronchitis and the pneumonias numbered 263, 74
less than in 1913. In 1912 the number was 324. The mortality from these causes was 1'85
per 1,000 last year, as compared with an average of 2'25.
Alcoholism.—Nine deaths (3 of males and 6 of females) were certified to have been due to
alcoholism (acute or chronic) last year, as compared with 13 (males 7, females 6) in 1913 and
9 (males 3, females 6) in 1912. The mortality was 0 06 last year, or 0.01 below the average
for the preceding five years, As in 1913, the highest mortality (0.32) was recorded in Hyde
Park Ward, while in three Wards no death was attributed to this cause.
