SEPTIC DISEASES.
Mortality in Childbed.— In addition to the 5 deaths from puerperal fever, there were 7
others from "accidents and diseases of parturition." The mortality from such causes was at the
rate of 2.36 per 1,000 births last year, as compared with 2.47 in 1913, and an average of 2.55.
Higher mortality rates were observed in all the circumjacent districts, except Willesden (1.45).
The total mortality in childbed in the Borough (Table 18) was 4.04 per 1,000 births, as compared
with 3.52 in 1913 and an average of 3.45 for the five years 1909-13. The mortality rates recorded
in the Wards of the Borough are given below.

All rates per 1,000 births registered, except "Fatality," per 100 cases notified.
Erysipelas.— One hundred and forty-one cases were notified last year, the morbidity rate
being 0.98 per 1,000 persons, as compared with a rate of 0.76 in 1913, and an average (1909-13)
of 0.77 (Table 4). Table 5 shows that the rate recorded in the Borough was practically the same
as that for Kensington, but that lower rates were observed in all other adjacent districts.
